Meeks Park

Description: Blairsville's favorite "local" park
History: Since 1991, this park has served as a favorite park to many locals and tourists throughout the year. What could be considered as the "recreational center" of the county for many young children involved in sports, this park comes complete with multiple ball fields, walking trails, a swimming pool, a splash pad, a basketball court, a skating park, pavilions and more. The park is also home to many festivals including the Sorghum Festival, the Scottish-Irish Festival, and the Butternut Creek Festival. The park was made possible after the donation of land was given to the county for the park by Mr. Bill Meeks.
Fun Facts: 1. The park is named in honor of Dr. Bill Meeks, the man who donated the land for the purpose of the park. 2. The park is the home to the Union County Recreation Department’s baseball and softball teams, as well as the Union County Schools Cross Country programs. 3. The park is home to 3 festivals: The Sorghum Festival, the Blairsville Scottish Festival, and the Butternut Creek Festival. 4. The park has multiple pavilions that are used frequently for small events such as birthday parties, reunions, baby showers, and more. 5. The park also comes complete with tennis courts, a basketball court, a skate park, a swimming pool, and splash pad.
