Description: Union County's most popular waterfall

History: Very little extended history of these 2 waterfalls is unknown, but what is known is that the name for the waterfalls originates from a Native American known as Jack "Owl" Helton, who eventually changed his name to Abraham Helton. The reason for the waterfalls being named in his honor is because he once owned the land. The amount of years he owned the land is uncertain, but it is believed that he did own the land during the infamous "Trail of Tears" and the reason he was not removed from the area more than likely stems from the inaccessibility of the land at the time. Mr. Helton also fought in the Revolutionary War with the Virginia Regiment and lived to be right at 100 years old. Today, he and his wife, Katie Owl Helton, are buried at Frogtown Vineyards in nearby Lumpkin County, Georgia. Today, the waterfalls serve as a favorite spot to swim, relax, hike, and take photography for locals and tourists. Many people find themselves getting engaged or getting married here. There are no official visiting hours for the waterfalls and the best time to see them are in the Spring, Summer, and Fall months.
